Preaching Ephesians

I’m planning to begin preaching through Ephesians. I’ve collected an arm full of resources to help me in my study, understanding, and proclamation of this glorious epistle. My desk stack includes:

I also book marked the Ephesians page of the Bible Bulletin Board and loaded my ipod with sermons by John Piper, Mark Driscoll, and Joseph Braden.

*John Macarthur – Ephesians: New Testament Commentary*

Hey Don, this ought to be interesting when you come to Ephesians 2 🙂
Actually, I have this commentary, it it is very good…if you understand his presuppositional dispensationalism.

You have an excellent list there. Lloyd-Jones is one of the best on Ephesians. And don’t leave Calvin out of there!

May the Lord bless your study of His word as you begin this wonderful book.

Don,
will you be posting any of your messages as mp3’s? I’d be interested in following along with this series.

Tim,

I may. We have begun recording them in digital format.

I know a man can only look at so many resources, but may I recommend The Letter to the Ephesians by Peter O’Brien in the Pillar NTC series? Chosen in Him by Kenneth Good also is valuable. God bless your studies and ministry! Steve

I’d never preach Ephesians without a long look at Hoener’s massive commentary. He taught me advanced Greek Exegesis at Dallas Seminary and this is his best and final statement on the book.

I’m thinking of preaching the book to a church I may be called to pastor soon. The church is small, barely making its budget and is fighting itself to determine the future course of its purpose. I would begin my preaching ministry there by talking about the church/Church- form and function and I can’t think of a better place to begin. Comments?
